Original 1/6 ambrotype photo showing a man wearing a tall hat with a little sign on it: "Flour for Cash". Intriguing image dating to the Civil War era... in the South during the Civil War inflation was running rampant and prices for provisions skyrocketed.. for example, Bacon that cost $1.25 per pound in 1860 jumped to $10/lb by 1863; in Atlanta in 1864, a barrel of flour sold for $250.... I believe this image very likely has some connection, which would make it quite rare.
Very good antique condition in full case, with separated covers. The are a couple of age related spots and a little line through his hat, but nothing that detracts from the image. The line is not a crack in the ambrotype or glass, it's just some crazing in the emulsion, which is otherwise completely stable.
