Quarter-plate daguerreotype set, an outdoor bridge scene with many cut logs floating in the river below and a town visible in the trees in the background, and an older man and his wife; the man is holding an architect's rule with the couple's ages ("68-73") scratched into it! I would think that the man was probably the bridge builder / designer.
Under magnification I can see a woman waiting in the stopped buggy that is on the bridge, and two men talking on the far left. I used to own a daguerreotype of the man in the cowboy style hat (wearing the same clothes as he is wearing on the bridge).. so I'm pretty confident that the man in the dark suit that is seen talking to him and the woman in the buggy are the same couple offered in this dag set.
Condition and Other Notes: If you are considering buying, please read carefully and ask any questions before committing to purchase! I will be more than happy to answer all questions:
Dags are in a full case with professionally restored spine. The case is in overall excellent condition and measures 4.75" x 3.75" when closed. The daguerreotypes are in overall very good or better antique condition, with original paper seals still intact. The issue of note is some speckling in the sky in the outdoor view, as shown, mostly noticeable under magnification. Apart from the speckles, I have not spotted other issues like corrosion, swipes, dings, abrasions or scratches on either image. Some of those white spots in the dag of the couple are POSSIBLY little mold spiders, but they could just be on the underside of the glass, I can't remember.. but if you'd like me to double check, please ask and I'd be more than happy to get them out of inventory and do so.
Listing photos 1 & 2 are scans, 3 & 4 are taken with my camera, set on flash to reduce any room reflections. In person the dags can look like either my scans OR the photos, depending on the lighting conditions, but assume that in hand they will look more like photos 1 and 2. The underside of the glass on each is very dirty, affecting my scan quality some, but the images appear to be sharp and clear, and would not doubt be improved if the underside of the glass was cleaned... a professional dag restorer might be able to remove the speckles, as well, though to be honest I don't find them an issue, as they don't take anything away from the great scene.
