Original CDV by Whipple of Boston, showing a man photographed in profile holding what appears to be a gray kepi against his hip. Signed in ink along the bottom,
"Wm. F. Lee, 1861".
Possibly CSA William Fitzhugh Lee Jr. (1832-1861), 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment, Stonewall Brigade, Army Of Northern Virginia, who was killed at the battle of First Manassas??? See the second photo in this listing for comparison.
Another collector also suggested the possibly that he was William Henry Fitzhugh “Rooney” Lee, the son of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, who joined the Confederate army as a cavalry officer under J.E.B Stuart, but up until then he had reason to be in Massachusetts, where this was taken by Whipple, having attending Harvard University.
CDV is in very good to excellent antique condition, dimensions are 4.25" x 2.5".
Shipping: Boxed Priority Mail.
