Original 1898 cabinet photo of Mary Lowther Ranney, inscribed on the back in pen.

Ranney (1871-1939) was a trained architect and educator, graduating from Kemper Hall Academy in Kenosha, Wisconsin, attended classes at the newly established University of Chicago, and taught at the University School for Girls in Chicago. In 1904, at the age of 34, she moved to Pasadena, where she was a teacher as well as a draftsman for the famous Greene & Greene architectural firm, which built all of those amazing Craftsman houses in Southern California. She founded the Westridge School in Pasadena, California, which still operates today.

Dimensions of the mount are 7.25" x 5". Very good or better antique condition, lightly bumped upper-left mount tip. My watermark is on the scan only, not on the original photograph :)
