Rare early, sixth-plate daguerreotype of Ela Collins (February 14, 1786 – November 23, 1848), member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 20th district (in office March 4, 1823 – March 3, 1825) and lawyer. Collins is identified by a period note affixed to the green silk pad.

I think this was taken about 1841-1842 - Collins would have been about 56 here - and it appears to be the portrait that his Wikipedia image, a drawing, is based on. Most likely taken by a New York daguerreotypist.

Housed in its original leather case. Both the dag and the case are in very good antique condition. Daguerreotype is no longer sealed, but other than a layer of tarnish I see no issues. The diagonal line is a tarnish line. Please review the photos carefully. I am always happy to answer any questions, so please ask before committing to purchase.
