Rare and original CDV by Alberto Henschel, Brazil, showing a group of slaves transporting a man in a sedan or litter. The man in the litter is white and bears a very strong resemblance to the photographer Henschel, compared to pictures of him I've found online - I believe it's likely him.

Bahia, Brazil was once a center of sugarcane cultivation, and slave trading, and at one time, 1/3 of all slaves taken from Africa were sent to Brazil, to be processed through Bahia. Slavery was legal in Brazil until 1888, years after this photo was taken.

CDV is approximately 4" x 2.5". Very good antique condition, light soiling.
