Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909) was a prolific author best known for his novel The Man Without a Country (1863). Signed Edward E. Hale below image. Signed and underlined in ink - I have confirmed that the signature is definitely Hale's.
This is a pretty rare portrait of Hale.. I have seen examples of it in engravings and prints, but this is the original photograph.
Very good or better antique condition with light foxing, age spots, but no serious damage.
