Original early-1860s CDV of Reverend Timothy Willard Lewis (1825-1871), by Black & Case, Boston. Lewis was a missionary to freed black slaves, and during the Reconstruction Era in South Carolina established the Charleston Advocate, a newspaper intended for an African American audience. Portrait taken by Black shortly before he departed to South Carolina in 1862.

4" x 2.5". Very good antique condition.. very tiny bit of liftin of the image in the bottom-right corner. My watermark is only on the scan.
