Rare daguerreotype of Major Joseph Koger (born 1779), identified by a period note affixed to the pad. 

Joseph Koger was a prominent citizen of Dorchester County, South Carolina, who served six years in the House of Representatives and 20 years in the senate representing St George's Parish. He was the first sheriff elected by the people of Colleton District.

Dag is in very good antique condition overall.. unsealed with a tarnish ring. Several small mat abrasions, mostly along the upper half mat edges. Case covers are separated with matching design, both hook clasps are present.
