
Three items relating to Colonel Edward George Washington Butler (1800-1888). From Wikipedia: Butler was raised under the guardianship of Andrew Jackson after his father's death, and graduated from West Point in 1820. A career Army officer, he served as a colonel of the 3rd Mississippi Dragoons in the Mexican War. He made his residence in Louisiana from 1831 to 1878, and then lived with his son in St. Louis, MO.
The first is an early-1850s albumen of Butler taken by Edward Jacobs of New Orleans. The photo is 8" x 6" on 11 x 8.5" mount. The second piece is an original 1888 obituary notice from the US Military Academy, printed on their watermarked 14" x 8.5" sheet. Third piece is a 1929 photo by Lomax, in folder, along with a typed biography. Folder is 7" x 5" when closed.
As a whole this lot is in very good antique condition.
