Original circa 1849 half-plate daguerreotype portrait of a fashionable woman holding a small book. She's wearing one glove, and her other glove has been placed on the table.
Although not identified, the previous owner had this image in their family for many years, with the belief that she was the poet Phoebe Cary, and I have no reason to doubt that… a comparison photo of Cary I found online shows quite a few similarities, in my opinion.
Dag comes in its original, velvet "Token" case, with Fontayne & Porter's Cincinnati studio on the pad. Case is 6" x 5" when closed and is very good or better antique condition, as is the dag. The dag has its original intact seals. Glass is a little foggy, but other than a small spot of tarnish or two, I see no issues whatsoever with the plate. All of the stuff in the upper-right / right side is on the glass, and exaggerated by my camera flash.
