Sixth-plate daguerreotype of a  young man with an open book.... Identified by a slip of paper found behind the image as as Carey Hayes. This dag came out of South Carolina estate, and while doing some research on the name, timeframe and location, I found a record for a Cary Hayes, born 1826 in Latta, SC, who fought in the Civil War, South Carolina 1st Confederate Engineers, Co K. Not sure if it's the same person because I could not find a photo of him in uniform, but definitely could be.

Unsealed in very good overall condition. I noticed a couple of mat abrasions but these are small. I took some quick cell phone pics, with and without flash.
