Historically significant, mid-1840s 1/6 daguerreotype portrait of Joseph Jenkins Roberts, the first and seventh President of Liberia. I do not know the location it was taken, however, all of the other images acquired with it were from Philadelphia, so I think it's a good bet that's where this was taken as well. In a full leather case with silk mat, and separated halves. Case is 3.75" x 3.25" when closed. There is a tarnish ring and an accompanying band of light haze or lighter colored tarnish, mostly along the right side. The plate itself is in very good condition - no scratches, dings or swipes. A couple of very tiny mat abrasions, up against the mat. Any white specks are dust/lint on the scanner or underside of the dag glass. No longer sealed, though all of the pieces of the image fit tightly in the case with no movement. Shipping is by Registered Mail, which provides extra security, but takes about 2-3 longer than Priority. Please message with any questions about the item and/or shipping.
