Historically significant, mid-1840s 1/6 daguerreotype portrait of Joseph Jenkins Roberts, the first and seventh President of Liberia. I do not know the location it was taken, however, all of the other images acquired with it were from Philadelphia, so I think it's a good bet that's where this was taken as well. In a full leather case with silk mat, and separated halves. Case is 3.75" x 3.25" when closed. There is a tarnish ring and an accompanying band of light haze or lighter colored tarnish, mostly along the right side. The plate itself is in very good condition - no scratches, dings or swipes. A couple of very tiny mat abrasions, up against the mat. Any white specks are dust/lint on the scanner or underside of the dag glass. No longer sealed, though all of the pieces of the image fit tightly in the case with no movement.
