Very nice half plate early-1850s daguerreotype of a painting of a little girl holding flowers. The way she is holding the flowers, pointing downward, very possibly means that this was a memorial painting of her.
The mat is stamped J.F.E. Prudhomme (John Francis Eugene), 663 Broadway (New York City). Interestingly, he shared this address with the New York Academy of Design, the New York Athenaeum and the New York Gallery of Fine Arts.. this painting might be found in connection with one of those establishments.
Dag has tarnish ring and spots, mold spiders, one or two pinprick mat abrasions, otherwise it's in very nice condition. Case is complete and intact with no repairs, and is about 6" x 4.25" when closed.
