Original half-plate daguerreotype of a man and his beautiful wife by McClees & Germon - their black and gold Philadelphia studio label is on the bottom of the mat. Case is 6" x 4.75" closed. Scratched onto the back of the dag is the following ID and date: "Walter and Alice H. Cresson December 8, 1847" The Cressons were a prominent family in Philadelphia. They were successful merchants and saw makers. Walter (1817-1893) married Alice Hunnum (1824-1915) on May 29, 1844 in Philadelphia. The original seals were completely intact when I found this, but the glass was very dirty so I cleaned the underside of the glass and resealed with archival tape. There are areas of the glass that have spotting but I don't like replacing the original glass unless it's really bad. Some mold spiders, but no swipes, scratches, dings. The plate was not cleaned or rinsed. Original seals are inside. In full, intact leather case, separated covers. Case has some normal wear and a stable split along one side. Boxed & insured PRIORITY MAIL. Discounted Express is available at checkout (Overnight delivery to most ZIP codes)
