Wonderful large ambrotype photo, late-1850s, showing a woman and a group of children.. surely a teacher / Sunday School teacher and her class!  This was out of a Marcellus, New York, estate.

Ambrotype is half-plate in size... the case dimensions are 6" x 4.75" when closed.

This original ambrotype is behind mat and glass in a full case. It is in very good antique condition, light age-relating discoloration ring and some light solarization and small areas of speckling. Those small white specks in the upper-right background and the one or two scattered around the image are debris stuck to the underside of the glass or sitting on top of it when I took the picture.. not damage. It is a clear glass ambrotype with the backing glass painted black to bring out the image; some of the areas of black paint on the back have flaked over over the years (this is not considered damage), and a piece of black paper has been placed behind the image.

Case is complete with both of its hook clasps; covers are separated along the spine and there is some paper loss to the covers, as shown.

Shipping: Well-packed and insured Priority Mail.
