Excellent CDV of Dr. Daniel Elliott (1792-1868), posing with his carved walking stick, and signed in ink along the bottom:
Dan'l Elliot, at 74. Oct 1, 1866.
Photographed by Whitney & Beckwith, Norwalk, Connecticut.
Below is an interesting and somewhat odd description I found of him while researching online:
"six feet in height; broad of chest and large of limb, clear-eyed, active and fearless; the best foot-ball player of the region. His features were bold, his complexion pure and his eyes grey, large and luminous. His grasp was cordial; and his manner readily friendly except to the depraved. Vulgarity and ribaldry he abhorred. He was gentle, graceful, modest, sensitive and refined. Day after day his life seemed one continuous act of kindness to the less gifted of his race."
Crisp CDV in excellent antique condition; mount is 4" x 2.5".
