Original 1/6 daguerreotype of a woman and a girl who id undoubtedly her daughter - they look exactly alike! The mom is wearing a bonnet and appears to be holding a partially opened daguerreotype and is wearing a painted gold ring; the girl is holding a small beaded purse and has ribbons in her hair.
Bottom-right corner of the mat is stamped with the studio, "CHASE"... this was most likely the photographer Alonzo Chase of Boston.
Housed in half of its original thermoplastic case.. but what a great half it is.. I've always loved this case design...
Dag has a tarnish ring and mold spiders in the upper-left and along that side.. but even the mold spiders add a neat quality to it. they almost look like ethereal underwater plants in my scan! There is also some light colored, haze or tarnish visible in areas, but it's not glaring and might be cleanable - I've never attempted to clean this dag in any way.
Otherwise, the dag is in very good or better antique condition. I resealed it with archival tape.
