1/6th plate image in full case. Mat is stamped three times along the top, right, and bottom edges: "C.L. Howe", "Sphereotype" and "May 27, 1856".
This is a relievo ambrotype / "sphereotype". The image is very clear and sharp and is in very good condition. The black paint on the back is applied in silhouette style ("relievo") and it is cracking, which is visible on the front of the image from some angles, however this is not damage to the emulsion as you probably know. The case is worn and the top rail is mostly detached.
* In this shop are other photos this man and his wife - just search for "Caleb Howe" to view them.
