Original CDV of Charles Stewart Brooks, 5th Cavalry, U.S. Army. Died of typhoid fever at Fort Monroe, Virginia on July 7, 1862, 21 years old. Ink inscription including For Mr. Lowther" on the back and studio imprint of photographer  B.P. Page, Washington, D.C.

Brooks was the son of the wealthy New York metal manufacturer William Foreman Brooks, who made parts for locomotives and firearms. He's buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.

CDV is 4" x 2.5" and in excellent antique condition.
