Original c.1860 ambrotype, on colored glass... cute little girl holding her doll, seated in a fancy chair. Both the doll and the girl have lightly tinted pink cheeks. On the back of the image, scratched into the top edge of the preserver, she is identified as Sarah Kendall.
Ambrotype is housed in its original leather and velvet case with a draped lyre and floral design on its covers.. it's considered a hard-to-find case, and I have seen it used often to house post mortem and memorial images.
Case is complete and intact. Ambrotype is behind mat, with no cover glass, and is in overall very good antique condition. A few small abrasions are visible under enlargement/magnification, but I can only see a couple when viewing the image normally in my hand.
This is a ninth-plate (1/9) image. Case is about 3" tall when closed.
