Original 6.5" x 4.25" cabinet card. Interesting image.. my first thought was the dog almost looked post mortem or drugged, then I noticed the advertising line at the bottom - in addition to being the photographer, T.B. Taylor was also a druggist, stationer and issuer of marriage licenses! I strongly suspect that the druggist in him couldn't resist giving the dog a little something (and possibly the kid as well) to keep them settled for their portrait... wouldn't be unheard of for the time, and some say it was common practice. We'll never know, but regardless, it's a great photo of a little girl and her dog.
Taylor's studio was in Watford, Ontario, Canada.
Image is in overall very good antique condition; the back is blank and lightly soiled, but no serious damage.
