Original painted miniature of a woman behind glass in a gilt bronze? frame. The previous owner attributed this to the French miniaturist Marie Anne Fragonard (1745-1823), and searching online I have seen one of her paintings in a frame with the same logo that is on the back leg of this piece.
However, this little portrait is UNSIGNED, so I cannot guarantee who the artist is, however I can guarantee that it is an antique miniature painting on some kind of wafer, not sure if it's ivory, but it's NOT on paper.
Dimensions are 2" tall (including loop) by 1 1/4" wide. It can be worn on a chain or displayed. The painting is in very good or excellent antique condition. The frame is almost excellent except the bottom tab on the back is damaged and nearly detached at its base.
I'm not an expert on antique portrait miniatures! I welcome any input from collectors and professionals in this area.
