Original 1890s cabinet card (6.5" x 4.25") of William Riley Helfer (1868-1944), standing with his walking stick next to some antlers! Photographed in Eddy or Roswell, New Mexico by Pool & Butler. On the back in period ink is written:

Riley Helfer
In the West

Some light research brought up some interesting info about his life. A Texas State penitentiary record shows that in 1901 he got convicted for stealing hogs and was sentenced to 2 years jail time. The record also gives a physical description of him.. 5'11.5", brown eyes, black hair, and left leg shorter than the right, which explains the walking stick. In 1944 Helfer was walking in Fort Worth, Texas, when he was struck and killed by a car.

I can't make any promises, but I believe I still have COPIES / scans -not the originals - of both his prison record and his death certificate, that I will be happy to send to the buyer, if they want them.

Cabinet card is in very good antique condition with normal age wear and foxing.
