Daguerreotype pendant, mid-to-late-1840s, with a portrait of a man behind cover glass. In the hair on the back, also behind glass, is a lock of his hair.
This was from the family estate of a descendant of George Mifflin Dallas, who was US Vice President under James K. Polk. The man in this photo is possibly George's son, Philip Nicklin Dallas (1825-1866), who was a lawyer practicing in Philadelphia at this time.
I have seen this exact pendant frame quite a few times for sale over the years before and it has tested at 10K (hoop) to at least 18K gold for the back... however, I CAN'T guarantee this is gold because I do not personally have a gold test kit.
Brooch is in very good or better antique condition with some tarnish to the frame. Dimensions are approximately 3" tall (including hoop) by 1 3/4" wide.
Boxed shipping.
