In August 1862, group of Dakota Indians began attacking trading posts, farms, and settlements in an attempt to reclaim their homeland. Governor Ramsey sent in military troops, and offered a bounty to be paid to anyone who killed a Dakota person. In a speech to the Minnesota legislature, Ramsey declared, “The Sioux Indians of Minnesota must be exterminated, or driven forever beyond the borders of the state.”
CDV is 4" x 2.5" an in very good antique condition. Clipped signature is original, ink signed, 1860s.
