1/6 ambrotype, on colored glass, behind original mat and cover glass. Photo shows an older man photographed in his bed. He was likely very ill and bedridden, and the family wanted to have one last photo of him taken of him "in life". This was being advertised as a post mortem photo when I purchased it, but I'm certain he was still alive here.
Inside of the case is some writing, identifying the man as:
"John Young, father of Mrs. Geo Millard, 6 foot 6 inches tall".
..which is very tall now and extremely tall back in then 19th century... Abraham Lincoln was 6'4" and was often seen to tower above crowds of people he was in. Anyway, that's quite an interesting addition to this image.
Very good antique condition. The cover glass is a bit smudged, but this is on the glass only, not on the ambrotype. The case is complete with repaired spine.
