Sixth-plate, circa 1856 ambrotype of a man photographed in his bed. Behind brass mat, housed in a full pressed paper case. This is a two piece ambrotype.. the glass with the image on it, sealed to a second dark piece of glass.. with this method, it's common that "air pocket" occlusions form between the two pieces of glass, and that is what has happened here, although they seem a bit more exaggerated in my photos than they do in person. The image is still sharp and clear, and most of the man's face is not affected. The spine of the case has been taped.
