Original 1850s, double-sided brooch, with a daguerreotype set in each side on a swiveling center post. The dag rotates completely around to display a different image, either the handsome young man or the young girl, who is holding a rose*.
(* the previous owner insisted she was post mortem.. I can kind of see
where they were coming from, particularly when you consider the flower, BUT, in my opinion she was
not deceased).
This can be worn as a pin brooch or on a necklace - there is a small hanging loop at the top.
Nice larger size, measuring about 2.5" tall.
Based on similar pieces from this period, I assume that this is gold / gold-filled, but I can't guarantee it, because I don't have a test kit!
The condition of both the brooch and the daguerreotypes is very good antique or better. Both dags have some tarnish and/or tarnish rings. I don't see any damages or missing part of the jewelry; the dags have expected tarnish but appear to have not been ever removed from the brooch. There might be some original, very light buff marks but I don't see any later damage.
