Original ninth-plate (1/9) daguerreotype of a little boy in its original pebbled leather, push button case.

Behind the image he is identified with the following note, written in pencil on the wall of the case:

Arthur Dana
January 30, '57
Abt 2 yrs, 4 mos

Taken by George Howe of Portland, Maine, whose studio name is stamped in the lower right corner:

G.M. Howe

Tarnish ring, otherwise excellent condition. The underside of the glass is dirty but the original seals are unbroken. Opening them and cleaning the glass will improve the image a lot. The case is complete, functional and intact but has some wear spots. It's about 3" tall when closed.
