Original 1840s daguerreotype of an earlier, painted/drawn portrait of a late-18th Century man, in profile. Maybe a politician or somebody well-known? I have not researched it much.
The 6th plate case might be rare, I'm not familiar with it. The daguerreotype appears to have very old or original, very fragile seals. The underside of the glass is a little dirty and there is a tarnish ring, as shown, but I see no damage whatsoever on the image. The case is complete and intact, with some wear to the leather.. the two inside corners on the pad side have separated but are still attached to the case, so they can pretty easily be repaired with wood glue.
