Sixth-plate daguerreotype behind paper mat. Unidentified man seated at tinted blue table.
The inside of the case is lined with a piece of a map of Texas.. I was able to track down exactly what map it was taken from: A.B. Gray's Map of the River Sabine from its Mouth on the Gulf of Mexico in the Sea to Logan's Ferry, Joint Boundary Commission, circa 1842. See auction photo #3.. found online, included for reference only. The Custom House on this piece of the map was situated Northeast across the river from its Texas counterpart.
Whether or not the man in this daguerreotype has something to do with the map, or Texas history, I don't know...
Daguerreotype is unsealed in half of its original case. It has tarnish, tarnish ring, etc, and a bunch of tiny mold spiders, but no scratch, ding or swipe damage that I can see.
Boxed & insured Priority Mail.
