Original cabinet card of Harry Beverley Postley with his horse, somewhere around San Mateo or Santa Barbara, California.

Signed and dated on the back:

"Going out tonight?
Yours etc
H.B. Postley
April 20, 1879"

Postley was born in 1857, and died at a young age, in 1886. He was 22 in this photo. Just two months before this photo was taken, this was printed in a February, 1879 newspaper:

Harry B. Postley. who has been at Santa Barbara,
Cal. for his health, is "doing" the State of California
on horseback, and lately left for a thousand mile trip in
the saddle from Santa Barbara to the Yosemite Valley
and back. ·

An 1880 census has him living in San Mateo, California, and lists his occupation as a "Capitalist".

Cabinet card is 6.5" x 4.25" and in very good vintage condition.
