Original 1/6 tintype William White Shreve (1840-1863), identified inside of the case. Shreve was the brother of Ida Katherine Shreve who married Henry Green Sandifer; this tintype of William was purchased along with photos of Henry Green Sandifer and family, so the identification is pretty solid.
William was born in Kentucky in 1840 and fought in the Civil War, 6th (or 7th?) Kentucky Cavalry. According to the genealogy site Ancestry as well as, "The Genealogy and History of the Shreve Family from 1641" by Luther Prentice Allen, at some point he was captured and died in Camp Douglas, "The North's Andersonville", in 1863.
Tintype is in half of a case, behind mat and cover glass. It is in very good or better antique condition with a couple of small mat abrasions. I have provided a couple of cell phone pics, including the second one in this listing which was taken with flash to help show the details better.
