Quarter-plate, tinted daguerreotype of a woman seated in a red tinted chair.
She's wearing dangling diamons earrings with painted gold detailing and a
cameo brooch, also trimmed in gold, showing Leda and the Swan.
The mat is stamped GURNEY / 349 BROADWAY
Accompanying the dag is a great note, which will be included, that identifies
the woman as Margaret Peck.
Note seems to read:
Margaret Peck great (crossed out) sister of William Jackson.
Diamond pendant made from her earrings and Aunt Margaret Jackson's
earrings for (??) Robert Jackson. Looks as if she is wearing cameo
Leda & the Swan.. she is, I have it in my bureau.
Resilvered dag in full, original case. Case is v nice overall though the covers
are separated. The dag has been resealed with archival tape, with I'd say most
of the original seals still inside, in bits. Condition of the image overall is
very good to excellent. There is a light tarnish ring and a couple of other
areas of tarnish, and a few very small mat abrasions tight up against the mat
that I can see under magnification, otherwise no other issues.
