Two quarter-plate daguerreotypes of a man and his wife and their daughters. These have no photographer attribution, however, they are the same people in a lot of three daguerreotypes I recently sold (one of which had the family's African American nanny posing with the little girl), two of which were taken by the Memphis, Tennessee photographer R.H. Wellington... I think these were probably taken by Wellington as well.
The sitters are not identified, but based on the estate these came from, they were possibly members of the Adkisson / Orman families of Tennessee and Virginia.
Condition notes:
The dag of the parents has a tarnish ring, and looking very carefully under magnification I can see one or two pinprick corrosion spots.. maybe a couple of tiny mold spiders in there. There are no abrasions no swipes no scratches. I resealed it with archival tape back in 2017. Covers are matching but separated.
The dag of the little girls has a tarnish ring, tarnish spot, some mat abrasions mostly near the top edge of the mat, a few pretty small random short scratches and I found one pinprick corrosion spot on the big girl's dress.. hard to spot unless you're looking for it. And a couple of the scratch spots are definitely on the glass. It has some minor issues but I think it still looks nice in person, I don't think the issues detract much or at all in hand. Covers are matching, separated.
