Quarter-plate, 1840s daguerreotype. ID'd on the back, looks like "A.J. Prior", or close to it... this came out of a Texas estate. I think he was probably Andrew Jackson Prior (1815-1899), son of Asa, a wealthy land and slave owner. The Prior family was from Georgia, but A.J. Prior moved to Rusk County, Texas around 1840 and Asa followed, buying up large tracts of land there.
Uncased, loose mat, no cover glass, quite a few surface issues, as shown, but still a great portrait.
