Original circa 1861 quarter-plate ruby ambrotype photo of three Civil War drummer boys in Zoauve style uniforms. The oldest boy is leaning on a rifle and a drum with his kepi and drumsticks is in the foreground. The boys' buttons and accents on their kepis and on the drum are painted gold.
Ambro is on ruby colored glass and is behind glass and mat in full leather case. Not super happy with my scan but I do think in person you will appreciate it more.
Condition notes: There is some surface deterioration - the ambro came to me with the mat on top, so the glass was resting directly on the image for who knows how long.
So the surface has quite a few deterioration spots... however, the emulsion is completely stable at this point, meaning it will stay exactly as-is with no further deterioration. There is no active flaking.
Leather of the case is worn but not too badly. There is an old leather strip spine repair that has split.
