1/4 tintype, behind glass and mat in half of its original case (4.75" tall): A happy boy holding his hat, posed with his dog. Off to the right (mostly hidden by the mat when it is placed back on) is a partially visible seated woman and the prongs of a posing stand.
Hard to see in my scan but written inside of the case is a note that says, "Miss Maria Evans. From Friend Jack. J.P. Marshall Photographer/Artist July 1862."
There was a J.P. Marshall photographer in Boston, and a James Marshall in Lacon, Illinois.. could be either one of those.
Tintype is in very good to excellent antique condition.
