Original 1/6 tintype of Laird Howard Barber (1848-1928) as a young boy in 1860. Tintype is behind mat and cover glass in full case. Despite being behind glass there is some surface wear and age-related darkening. The plate is stamped with Neff's patent along one edge.
Bio: U.S. Congressman. Graduating from Lafayette College, in 1871, he was the principal of the Mauch Chunk Pennsylvania Public Schools, (1875-80), then studied law, was admitted to the bar and proceeding to practice law in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania. He was secretary of the Mauch Chunk Town Council and director of the Mauch Chunk School Board, in 1890. In 1899, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress, serving until 1901. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and in 1813, was elected president judge of the fifty-sixth judicial district of Pennsylvania, serving until his death at age 79.
