
1/6 tintype of a man holding what looks to me like an open map across his lap. This was from the family estate of a descendant of George Mifflin Dallas, who was US Vice President under James K. Polk, so it could be a family member. Inside of the case is a date of 1858, so it's an early tintype and is even sealed.
The tintype is behind mat and cover glass. There are some lines crisscrossing the image but these are not bends, looks like they occurred during the creation of the tintype and have always been there. Case covers are separated.
