1/6 tintype of an identified soldier, "William Mahaffay, son of Samuel and Betsey Churchill Mahaffay". Mahaffay was born in 1843 and died of disease in 1863. Apparently there was some mix-up with his burial and an unknown soldier was buried as Mahaffay at Oak Hill Cemetery in Illinois.. but Mahaffay is actually buried at Stones River National Cemetery in Tennessee.. see picture 2 (source: FindAGrave). You can find his memorial on FindAGrave at Stones River, as William MahaffEy.
Tintype is in a good union case, pad is loose. It is behind mat BUT THERE IS NO COVER GLASS. Tintype is very good with no bends, and a few light mat abrasions.
