Sixth-plate, 1850s daguerreotype of a well-dressed bearded man. UNCASED.

Although not identified, this man's name was Lyman Frank Varrell (1830-1878), a fisherman who lived in Biddeford, Maine. His father Nathaniel was the lightkeeper of the Wood Island lighthouse there, and when he died unexpectedly, Lyman took over his father's lightkeeper post for a few years. Lyman changed the family name from Varrell to Verrill at some point.

Listing pic #2 shows Lyman taken about 10, 12 years after my daguerreotype. The scan is provided for reference only and is not included. Source

This dag has a tarnish ring and what look like tiny scattered pinprick sized nicks or something in the center of the image.. these are almost exclusively visible when viewed at an angle and do not detract.

Shipping: Ground mailer. Boxed Priority also available.
