Original 1830s/1840s miniature hair memorial, showing two burning hearts on top of a gravestone, with a banner hung between two trees and what could be a snow-covered foreground. The words on the banner appear to be, "à la reconnaissance"... incredible how they were able to clearly spell this out on such an extremely tiny scale!
The hair has been chopped or ground and laid on a thin semi-transparent white background, probably celluloid. The scene is behind cover glass and set in a 5" x 5 1/8" tall wood frame with hanging loop. On the back the piece has been sealed in place by a piece of paper, probably from a book, containing French religious text.
The entire piece is in very good antique condition; the scene is clear and easy to see through the cover glass. Under close examination there are some little dark specks visible on the white background, possible little bits of hair but they do not move and there is no loose hair visible.
Shipping is by well-packed, boxed Priority Mail.
