Two original miniature portraits of a boy and a girl in matching velvet push-button cases. These look a lot like the work of the artist John Carlin ((1813-1891), but are not signed anywhere I can see.
Both portraits are protected behind cover glass. They appear to be painted on oval wafers (unsure of the material since I have never taken these apart) on top of some background.
I believe the velvet cases date to the 1850s or 1860s, so the paintings might be from that time, or even a little bit earlier. They appear to both be in excellent antique condition. The cases are also very nice, though one of the push-buttons does not function perfectly.
The cases are 2.5" tall by 2" wide when CLOSED. Happy to answer questions, just sent a message through this listing.
