Very rare and original CDV format photos of a young Dr. William W. Keen, Jr., and his wife Emma, photographed in the 1860s by Gutekunst, Philadelphia.
Keen was a medical pioneer who performed the first successful brain tumor operation in the United States, and more famously, performed the secret surgery on President Grover Cleveland while onboard a yacht.
These CDVs were side-by-side in an album, labeled "Dr. Keen" and "Mrs. Keen" beneath their photographs. Both are in very good or better antique condition.
