The profile on the other side of this piece of pasteboard is that of a young female named Grace Gray whose age at the time this shadow was secured was about twenty-three years. She is a young woman of more than ordinary ability but is either too modest or too contrary to utilize her talents - probably the latter.
Grace was born in 1854 (so this would have been taken around 1877).. she lived her whole life in Mineral Point, with her father, then her brother's family, and never married, before dying in 1934. She is buried at Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point.
The corners have been rounded, but the dimensions are still over 4" tall by 2.5" wide. Otherwise in very good antique condition.
