Original albumen image on its original approximate 4" x 2.5" mount. On the back in period handwritten ink is, "A Soochow Woman".
This is an old CDV produced in China, by a Chinese photographer in early-1860s, and was part of a larger collection of CDVS I acquired that were either taken by, or distributed by Hong Kong photographer N'Gha Chan. This one does not have that info, but other CDVs from this collection have Chan's imprint, which reads, "N'GHA CHAN, 60 QUEEN'S ROAD, H.K". Chan operated in H.K. in from the 1860s until the 1880s.
This CDV is possibly copied version of a larger image, that was then sold in CDV format by Chan. These CDVs were collected by a United States sailor on his visit to China circa 1863.
Good antique condition.. some age-related discoloration and/or toning to the mount, which is common with all of the images from this particular collection. No creases.
