Quarter-plate ambrotype of a pretty woman holding a very young deceased baby. She is tentatively identified by the note as Grandma Stone. This was part of a small collection from Richmond and Lynchburg, Virginia. I have a dag of her husband that was taken by Gibbs of Lynchburg. Based on research of the death of infants named Stone in Virginia at the time, it's possible the child's name was Elias Stone (8/8/1855 - 8/20/1855), and the woman was Emily Stone. Ambrotype is behind mat and glass, though as you can see it has some areas of stable deterioration. Clear glass ambro with a piece of black velvet behind the image. The case is complete and intact with no repairs.
