Quarter-plate daguerreotype of a boy holding what looks like a walking stick.. I think. At first I thought it was part of the chair, but the head appears to go in front of his jacket, and his hand at the bottom edge of the mat appears to be in a position that would be grasping it. Could be one of those carved figural head walking sticks, but I'm not certain.

Based on other photos I picked up with this years ago, I think the boy might be a member of the Gray family of Boston. There were several stamped Plumbe dags in the same lot with this dag, but this one is unmarked and I can't remember if this case design is attributed to Plumbe or not.

Sealed with what looks like old paper seals, with a later, but old, piece of tape to help stabilize it, I guess. The underside of the glass is dirty/foggy but the plate appears to be in excellent. Excellent intact case with no repairs and very minimal wear, no repairs.
